Stock Templates: A Great Way to Market Yourself

With the political season over, Dual Digital has had more time to look at alternative channels of media production. Recently, we’ve begun selling stock templates on Videohive.net. What are stock templates you might ask?

Stock templates are a great way for consumers to use premium motion graphics and visual effects for their own purposes, without requiring a lot of technical know-how. In our case, Dual Digital has been producing stock templates for After Effects, a program produced by Adobe (maker of Photoshop, Acrobat, and Flash), for high-end visual effects.

A consumer would purchase a template, enter their own logo, tagline or information, based on the requirements of the template, and the template would then produce a high-quality graphic for them. There are two great benefits to using templates instead of hiring a professional:

First, it’s incredibly cheap. On Videohive (the site where I’m currently selling templates), prices range from 5 to 40 dollars per template. Compared to paying hundreds/thousands for a custom motion graphic, this is a bargain, and with thousands of templates to choose from, you’re bound to find something you like.

Second, it’s easy! Templates are pre-setup in a way that you don’t have to have very much technical knowledge to use them. You don’t even have to own After Effects! You can get a 30 day full-functioning trial here.

Stock templates are a great way to get professional-quality graphics while keeping your pocketbook intact. I would highly recommend them to new and growing businesses, as well as freelancers looking to promote themselves. Their uses are practically limitless.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and that’s because Dual Digital has joined forces with Voltacuts (read: I’ve been hired), a media production company focused specifically on politics. I’ve been on with them for just over two months, and we’re in the thick of the campaign season now, so I’ve had a lot less time to work on projects specifically for Dual Digital (or update the blog!). On the other hand, it’s been a great opportunity to put my skills into action and make some political ads and websites! Here’s just a few of them:

In addition, I also was involved with creating the site www.taxbreaks4snowbirds.org, which informs Florida voters about the problems of Amendment 4.

Also, just finished up an epic portfolio for HighCue Productions, the coolest new audio production company on the block! This neat little one-page site combines a minimalist design with slick motions to create a really unique web experience! You can check it out at: www.highcueproductions.com!

A Piece of History…

Tonight the documentary “From Wasioja to Washington” will air on the Pentagon channel. I was fortunate to be one of the editors on the film, and created some of the many motion graphics in the production as well. The documentary takes a fascinating look at a forgotten group of men from the small town of Wasioja, MN, who joined the rest of the nation to fight for the Union in the Civil War. It’s a piece of history that few people know about, and presents their story in a fascinating, engaging way.

New Websites: The Heart of Simplicity & John Swanson

Just finished a new website and video for the new ebook: The Heart of Simplicity. We were approached to create a complete look and feel for the book, including designing the cover, website graphics, and a stylish book trailer introducing the authors and chapters of the book.
